Hermann David Salomon Corrodi, 1844 Frascati -1905 Rom, römischer Maler schweizer Abstammung, Studium in Genf bei Alexander Calame, danach bei seinem Vater an der Accademia San Luca in Rom, zum Abschluß in Paris, bekannter Orientalist, der den Nahen Osten mit Syrien und Ägypten sowie viele Länder rund um das Mittelmeer bereiste, hier ein großformatiges Werk: Sonnenuntergang am Nil, im Hintergrund die Pyramiden, typisches Treiben von Personen und Kaufleuten am Ufer, sog. Kompositlandschaft, klassische Darstellung der Verbindung der Personen zum Hintergrund, Gegenlichtfarbgebung, z.T. im Rot und Blau bzw. Brauntonigkeit, reiche weiche Tonvariation, die Tiefe hervorragend beschreibend, angedeutete Wolkenbildung, der Himmel als Gegensatz zur Wasserspiegelung gesetzt, meisterliche, lasierende Malerei mit Alla-Prima-Abschluß, links unten signiert: H.
