Mixosaurus (hybrid saurian), Yunnan, China, 240 million years old, one species Ichthyosaurand transitional form between primitive Ichthyosaurs with eel-like stretched body and the more modern shapes, the one figure similarly the contemporary dolphins had; on these transitional character refer to the nameof the genus, found in 1989, cleaned with sandblasting technology, so that the fossil appears three-dimensional and all head-and breast-parts have remained perfectly preserved, fossil 77 x 31 cm, matrix plate approx. 74 x 27 cm, museum exhibit |
